Jotcal is a family calendar application designed for quick, at-a-glance viewing rather than extensive interaction. It presents a single, calm surface displaying today's events, tasks, and live weather, optimized for readability from a distance, such as on a wall-mounted tablet. The app integrates with existing calendar providers like Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, iCloud, and any CalDAV server, ensuring users don't need to create a new account or experience vendor lock-in.

The application offers six adaptive layouts across phone and tablet devices. For phones, these include a 'whole day at a glance' view, a 24-hour dial for events and free time, and a weekly bar chart with contextual tips. Tablet layouts are optimized for larger screens, featuring a 7-day grid, a traditional time-grid week view, and a focused 'today in focus' layout with the week in reach. A unique feature is the integration of weather narratives and daylight bars directly within the calendar grid.

Jotcal supports handwriting recognition, allowing users to jot down events with a stylus which are then instantly converted into calendar entries. It also includes a tasks panel in every layout to ensure nothing is missed. The app prioritizes privacy, operating without a Jotcal account or analytics, and processing calendar data directly with providers over encrypted connections, with handwriting data remaining on the device.

Specifically for Android, Jotcal is optimized for e-ink tablets like Boox NoteMax, offering a Wall Calendar Mode with large text and generous touch targets, and an E-ink Display Mode with high contrast and adaptive refresh. iOS users benefit from native iPhone and iPad support, Apple Pencil handwriting integration, and Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets via WidgetKit.

Jotcal operates on a 'pay once' model, offering a free version with core features like handwriting and two-way calendar sync, and a 'Pro' one-time unlock for all layouts, weather features, widgets, and future updates. Every installation includes a 14-day trial of the full app without requiring payment details.
