About CopyLasso
CopyLasso is a macOS application that turns selected pixels on your screen into clipboard text using private, on-device OCR.
CopyLasso allows users to draw a selection around any text visible on their Mac screen. The application then processes these selected pixels locally using Apple Vision's on-device Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, converting the image into clean, editable text that is placed directly onto the clipboard.
The software is designed with privacy in mind, performing all capture and recognition processes locally on the user's Mac. It explicitly states that there is no account creation, cloud OCR, analytics, or telemetry involved. Screenshots and HUD previews are never logged, saved, or uploaded. A Capture History feature is available but is off by default and, if enabled, encrypts data locally.
CopyLasso supports recognition of various text types, including text from photos, paused videos, remote desktops, menus, and code. It can also recognize QR codes and barcodes, converting them into inert plain text. Users can choose and prioritize the OCR languages available on their Mac, supporting multilingual text recognition. The application is free, open-source under the MIT license, and compatible with macOS 14+ on both Apple silicon and Intel processors.
