About claude-mem

claude-mem is an open-source memory engine that captures decisions, discoveries, and fixes from work sessions, making them available for recall across different tools and machines.

claude-mem is an open-source memory engine designed to capture and organize structured notes from various work activities. It helps users retain important context, such as decisions, discoveries, and fixes, making them readily available for future sessions, different machines, and other tools. The core engine stores these notes locally on the user's machine.

CMEM Pro extends the functionality of the open-source engine by adding hosted observation, cloud synchronization, and a private MCP (Memory Context Protocol) connection. This allows users to access their captured project memory across multiple connected computers and recall synced notes from compatible MCP clients. Hosted observation also offloads memory generation from the primary agent's subscription, potentially optimizing token usage.

The platform supports a memory loop that involves capturing agent activity into structured notes, enabling search by meaning, keyword, or timeline, and carrying this memory forward either locally or through cloud sync. It integrates with various development and AI tools, allowing for a shared project history across different applications. TeamBrain, a pilot program, is also being developed to enable shared memory and context for teams.

Key use cases include picking up work on another machine with cloud sync, finding specific details through searchable notes instead of reviewing entire transcripts, and understanding the history behind changes by tracing decisions and their sources. It aims to reduce the need for starting over and provides useful context without requiring full transcripts.
